For fifty years Dick Huey has excelled in listing and selling the finest waterfront homes and whole private lakes in Michigan’s U.P. and northern Lower Peninsula. He is a Michigan native and a dealmaker.
Dick is from Glen Arbor where he and his father before him owned and operated The Leelanau Homestead resort and condo project. He lived in Glen Arbor and Leland for 50 years and was always on the water, skiing behind his Chris Craft on Glen Lake, fishing Lake Leelanau winter and summer, canoeing, camping, and photographing Leelanau’s shores. It’s not a surprise that a love of Michigan’s land and water become the focus of his professional life.
Dick Huey Real Estate is a boutique brokerage that features the finest waterfront property in northern Michigan. Dick goes wherever the best properties are found anywhere in northern Michigan to list and sell waterfront and water view homes, whole private lakes, and private nature reserves. He searches for quality and limits the number of properties he lists. That is what makes possible the high level of customer service, problem solving, and marketing for which he has long been known. He uses all the professional tools including the MLS, Zillow and much more, but most important is the intense focus he brings to bear on selling your property.
Dick’s writing instructors included Robert Frost at Amherst and Wallace Stegner at Stanford, and his writing shows what a difference such training makes. He tells the story of what you have, showcasing its unique features, describing the surrounding area, often including the voice of the owner and always featuring great photography. He has used websites for thirty-five years and deeply understands the medium. Let him lead the marketing for your unique property.
His listings have regularly appeared in expensive print advertising: full page, professionally designed, color ads in quality publications like Traverse Magazine, Michigan Blue, & Great Lakes by Design. You’ve seen them over many years. When it can be effective he uses national advertising in the Wall Street Journal or specialty publications like Gray’s Sporting Journal. Each listing is featured on his personal website, miwaterfront.com.
On this website he showcases the photos, features, and benefits of your home or land in rich detail. Extra touches that come from long experience make all the difference. Dick’s ads and websites are works of art.
He continues to list the finest homes and waterfront properties available. If yours has outstanding frontage, architecture and design and the time has come to think about what comes next, let him show you what he can do to sell your home at the best price, in the shortest time.

50 years in the real estate business has given me a wealth of experience and practical know-how in high end waterfront homes and building sites, whole private lakes, streams, wild land, land planning, 1031 exchanging, and marketing. I am driven to be the best at what I do.
The toughest question in real estate is “What’s a good deal?” Land has qualities and attributes. People have needs and desires. When these match up at a fair market price, you have the elusive “good deal”. I am a matchmaker. Time and advice are my stock in trade. I provide information. If I understand your needs the odds are high that I’ll have the home or land you want. If not, I’ll know how to find it.
Privacy and northern Michigan waterfront are the most important things I sell. It has taken me years of database research, half a million miles of driving, countless hours in beautiful homes with a Nikon, hours of walking around private lakes, a library of resources, a network of friends and professionals, training at national classes and seminars, and the experience that comes from fifty years of real estate brokerage, all to be prepared to find you the best waterfront. I still learn something new every day and I work daylight hours, seven days a week. My expertise is valuable when you buy or sell waterfront land.

If you know what you want or are willing to spend the time to find it and learn the market, then finding the right home or land on which to build is not so hard. It’s what I do. It helps to be a native and to have grown up loving the land, lakes, and streams of northern Michigan. To keep up on what is available I use search services such as Zillow, the MLS, and realtor.com. I have access to everything that is listed by brokers, and to some that is not. There is abundant fine frontage in the northern Michigan.
If what you want is rare, unique, and fine, expect to pay more and be patient. That is the nature of markets. I make a market in waterfront property. Part of the price of acquiring great land and fine homes is taking the time to look, waiting for what you want, and acting quickly when you find it. To be successful you must be in the game. “People who catch fish have their line in the water.” But collecting reams of text and files of photos is not your objective. Worse, it gives others time to tie up that special piece that “lucky” people, the ones that take action, own and enjoy.
The creme de la creme of anything is hard to find, and others are looking too. Real Estate trades at a fair market price, or it usually does not trade. That too is the nature of markets. If you want the very best, tell me what makes you an exceptional buyer. Why should I call you first? And if I call with what you want, be prepared to come soon to own it.
Thanks for reading this. Enjoy the beauty of northern Michigan and help us preserve it!
